Getting stuck in emotions and what to do about it

Have you ever felt like you were stuck in an emotion like anger or sadness?

Almost like there is a part of you that kind of likes the emotion and doesn’t want to get out of it after all?

There’s a reason for that and I explain it all in this video:

 

Here’s what I said in a nutshell:

  1. You get stuck in your emotions because of your brain.
  2. Your brain gets a little reward every time it is efficient at something (including being grumpy)

Here’s what to do about it:

  1. Use your mind:  notice you’re emotion getting stuck and say “NO!” I choose a different path.
  2. Use your body:  stomp a foot as you say “No” or flick your fingers.  Get your body engaged to pull you out of the moment.
  3. Use your heart:  feel into the emotion you would prefer to be feeling in this moment (love, patience, hope etc)
  4. Use your Soul:  call on your spiritual tools such as flowers and prayer
